Foldable Electric Scooter for Adults (2026): Four That Fold and Carry 265 lb

If you will carry it up stairs or onto a train, weight matters more than speed. Four folding scooters with real Amazon prices and the catch on each.

By the ScooterBroker team · Updated

Short answer: if you have to carry it, get the NIU KQi Air. At 26.2 lb it weighs about half what the others do. If it only folds into a car trunk or a corner, the Segway Ninebot Max G2 gives you the most scooter for the money at $629.99, its lowest price in 90 days when we checked. All four picks here are rated for riders up to 265 lb.

How we made this guide: we did not ride these scooters. We picked them on each maker's published specs, and checked every price on Amazon and its 90-day price history on October 8, 2026. Range numbers are the makers' claims, which are measured with a lighter rider at a gentle speed. Expect less.

1. Weight decides how often you will actually fold it

Every scooter here folds. The question is whether you can lift it. Under about 30 lb, most adults can carry a scooter up a flight of stairs or onto a bus without thinking about it. Around 50 lb, you can lift it into a trunk, but you will not want to carry it far. If you live in a walk-up or mix the scooter with a train, weight is the first spec to read, before speed or range.

2. Folded size and how it locks

Most folding scooters fold the stem down onto the deck and hook it to the rear fender, so you can carry it by the stem. Check two things on the maker's page: the folded length (will it fit your trunk or under a desk) and whether the handlebars also fold. Fixed handlebars make a folded scooter wider than you expect.

3. Rider weight limit, with a margin

All four picks are rated to 265 lb. Riding near the limit costs range and hill-climbing, and wears brakes and tires faster. If you weigh more than about 240 lb with your bag, use our heavy-rider picker first: it adds a margin and shows scooters rated to 300 lb and up. Those are heavier and fold less easily.

4. Range: halve the claim to be safe

Maker range is measured with a light rider, at a slow speed, on flat ground. A heavier rider at full speed with a few hills often gets half. Pick a scooter whose claimed range is at least twice your round trip, or plan to charge at work.

5. Tires and suspension

Light scooters save weight with smaller tires and less suspension, so you feel more of the road. The KQi Air uses 9.5-inch tubeless tires and no suspension. The Max G2 has front hydraulic and rear spring suspension with 10-inch self-sealing tires, and the MAX Pro has dual suspension. On broken pavement, that difference matters more than any number on this page.

The picks

Prices are Amazon prices on October 8, 2026, read from Keepa's 90-day price history. We say for each one whether that was a good price or not.

  1. NIU KQi Air

Who it is for: Anyone who will carry the scooter often: stairs, trains, buses, an office. A carbon fiber frame keeps it at 26.2 lb with the battery, yet it is rated for 265 lb riders, 20 mph and 31 miles. Front disc brake plus regenerative rear brake.

The real downside: No suspension, and it costs more than the heavier picks. At $809.10 it was not at its best price: it sold for about $765 in August. Several Amazon listings for it show as unavailable, so check the seller before you buy.

$809.10 on Amazon (other sellers). Low in the last 90 days: about $765. · checked October 8, 2026

  2. Segway Ninebot Max G2

Who it is for: Most people who fold it into a car or a corner, not up stairs. Front hydraulic and rear spring suspension, self-sealing 10-inch tubeless tires, a 1000W peak motor, and up to 43 miles claimed.

The real downside: 53.5 lb is heavy to carry up more than a few steps. Its 25-mile figure at full speed (22 mph) is the more honest range number.

$629.99 on Amazon. That was its lowest price in the last 90 days; it has sold for up to $1,000 in that time. · checked October 8, 2026

  3. Hiboy MAX Pro

Who it is for: Riders who want the longest claimed range here, 46.6 miles, with dual suspension and 11-inch tires.

The real downside: Its motor is the weakest of the full-size picks (500W, 650W peak), so expect it to slow down on steep hills with a heavy rider. 51.6 lb.

$656.95 on Amazon, which is its usual low; it moves between about $657 and $730. · checked October 8, 2026

  4. NIU KQi 300X

Who it is for: Riders who want full-size power and hydraulic front suspension in the lightest of the full-size picks, 48.7 lb, with a 1000W peak motor.

The real downside: Not a good price right now. It was $595 to $700 on Amazon in July and August and jumped to $899 in September. Wait for it to drop or pick the Max G2.

$899 on Amazon. That is the top of its 90-day range. · checked October 8, 2026

How we picked

Questions people ask

What is the lightest foldable electric scooter for adults?

Of the scooters we checked that are rated for 265 lb riders, the NIU KQi Air is the lightest at 26.2 lb. Most folding commuter scooters weigh 35 to 55 lb.

Can I take a folding electric scooter on a train or bus?

Often yes, folded, but rules depend on the transit agency, and some ban them at rush hour or ban scooters with large batteries. Check your local agency's rules before you buy.

How much weight can a foldable electric scooter hold?

Most commuter folding scooters are rated around 220 to 265 lb. Above that, look at heavier scooters rated to 300 lb or more; our heavy-rider picker shows them.

Do folding scooters break at the hinge?

The folding joint is the part to check over time. Keep it tight as the manual says and stop riding if the stem wobbles. That is true of every folding scooter.

Safety note: wear a helmet, ride at a speed you can stop from, and check your city's rules on where scooters may ride. Lithium batteries need care: use the charger that came with the scooter, do not charge it overnight next to your bed, and stop using a battery that is swollen or damaged.
